Project description

Facilitating the design of manufacturing guidelines related to the Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) process

Expectations on the digital tooling of the design and manufacturing processes are numerous on the part of both machine builders and manufacturers. It represents a decisive break for businesses and for the economy as a whole. The Future Industry Alliance pursues the ambition of providing France with a reference sector.

Launched in 2017 for a period of two and a half years, the CDF project is part of the Inter-IRT “FIT Additive Manufacturing” action. Its ambition: to design algorithmic models to optimize the trajectory of the projection nozzle according to the quality of the parts to be produced and the design deadlines to be respected. To achieve this, several major challenges are to be noted, including: the prediction of manufacturing time, the design and optimisation of trajectories according to multiple criteria, the detection of areas at risk of collisions.

Results

  • Design and validate software algorithms and bricks, that can allow the validation of manufacturing instructions through simulating, in the upstream of the LMD manufacturing process.
