Makhlouf Hadji defended his Docent Habilitation (HDR) on March 3rd, 2017.

What is the focus of your Docent Habilitation (HDR)?

My Docent Habilitation (HDR) consists in overviewing the essential of my research activities since the defense of my PhD thesis in 2009. Thus, I summarized seven years of research activities and active participation in various international conferences and scientific symposiums, when involved in supervising young researchers and PhD students.
The focus of my docent habilitation considers the elaboration of new mathematical models to cope with resource allocation problems in exciting research areas such as cloud computing and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV). More specifically, I investigated efficient and rapid approaches based on graph theory and polyhedral approaches to better explore the convex hull of combinatorial optimization problems considered in the domains of cloud and NFV.

What has this distinction brought you?

This Habilitation confirms and highlights my research activities. Moreover, it attests and approves my abilities to supervise and conduct high quality research when collaborating with PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, and international researchers from different horizons.

What are your scientific perspectives at IRT SystemX ?

Cloud Computing and telecommunications areas are extremely promising. More specifically, NFV and programmable networks such as SDN (Software-Defined Networking) have enormous scientific potential. These complementary paradigms could for instance be applied to the Cloud and the IoT (Internet of Things) domains!
These are the research topics I would like to develop at IRT SystemX when collaborating with academic and industrial partners as well.

Biography
Makhlouf Hadji obtained a Master degree in operations research at Paris Dauphine University, in 2005. Next to that, he started a PhD thesis in combinatorial optimization theory applied to the design of telecommunications networks, and defended his thesis in 2009 at Pierre & Marie Curie University. He joined Institut Mines-Télécoms, Télécom SudParis as a post-doctorant for three years, before joining IRT SystemX in 2013. In addition to his different research activities, he launched the STC project (Telecommunications Services and Cloud) in partnership with Orange and Nokia.

What is an HDR?
An HDR, Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches, (Docent Habilitation) is the highest qualification or distinction in French universities. This distinction is granted to confirm the ability of the high quality of research and supervising activities of the candidate.
